《千字文》的作者是南朝梁代的周兴嗣。相传，梁武帝萧衍为了教诸王书法，让人从王羲之的作品中拓出了一千个不同的字，每个字一张纸。然后把这些无次序的拓片交给周兴嗣，让他编成有内容的韵文。周兴嗣用了一夜时间将其编完，累得须发皆白。
